In 1966 the 10,000 rpm tachometer was first seen in the 906 which achieved peak power at 8000 rpm. Since that time, 10k units have shown up in every purpose-built race car (907, 908, 910, 917 etc.), as well as a few street-legal cars. In most race cars the tachometer was rotated putting the redline at the 12:00 position allowing the driver to more easily see the redline during the race.
